Briefing session for “Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support Year 2010”

SOn Feb 18th, at 3 p.m. at the Gwangju NGO Centre 4th Floor main auditorium, Gwangju City held a briefing session detailing its plans for the “Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support Year 2010”
“Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support” aims to promote activities for the public’s general good, and to activate civic movements through partnerships between Gwangju City and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
The meeting was attended by representatives of civic groups already registered as non-profit organizations. Around 150 people attended, representing NGOs, registered non-profit groups and hands-on workers. Gwangju city explained the business pattern of the “Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support” and explained how to make and submit business plans, its own method of judgment and selection for applicants, and the standard for handling accounts.
Documents for application into the Business Support program can be downloaded from the city hall homepage, from February 19th, for one month. Alternatively, they can be obtained directly by visiting city hall directly, or they can be sent by registered mail.

After a thorough review of every section, ‘Public Interest Business Selection Committee’ will recommend civic groups in April. The committee will judge and select objectively and fairly. Selected groups will be announced on the city hall homepage as well as being notified individually.
Gwangju City announced the “Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support Year 2010” last Feb 1st, through the Bitgoeul Gwangju Newsletter as well as the city homepage (www.gwangju.go.kr)
This year, “Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support” reflects both government policy and Gwangju City policy of a focal project to ‘Build 1st?rated Gwangju’
There are a total five categories and thirteen high-class business areas which Gwangju City will support. These are
? to foster excellent public spirit (e.g.: to obey basic law and order)
- movement for green low-carbon growth (e.g.: green life innovation )
- make stable economy (e.g.: jobs creation)
- movement for unified society and community movement (e.g.: improving human rights for the underprivileged)
- making the framework to become culture capital and improving local image (e.g. improving local image, history, culture)
“This Bitgoeul Love Movement Business Support marks the first steps on the road to becoming a global civic movement,” said a Gwangju City official. “Through local promotional broadcasts, citizens’ voluntary participation, and movement for loving local area we can make bond of sympathy within our city, based on strong community values.”
