Opening a Bank Account

Any foreign national desiring to open a bank account in Korea must visit a bank with his/her own alien registration card and seal If a seal is not available, opening a bank account can be done using his/her signature that is provided, however, that in the case that the bank account is opened in this way, no subsequent transactions over the counter at the bank are permitted to anyone other than the person who opened the account. Internet and mobile banking may both be applied for when opening a bank passbook. ※ Banking hours are from 09:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs (from 09:30 hrs to 16:30 hrs in the case of the Korea First Bank)

Automated Teller Machine

By using the automated teller machine, it is possible to make a deposit into or withdrawal from the account. It is also possible to transfer money to the bank or accounts in other banks. With some special automated teller machines, it is possible to pay loans or pay insurance premiums. Automated teller machines may be used with cash cards, direct payment cards, credit cards or passbooks with a magnetic strip, or smart cards loaded with an IC chip. Automated teller machines can be found mostly in branches of banks, subway stations with heavy foot traffic, terminals and shopping centers. Most of the machines are kept in operation from early in the morning until late in the evening, and some of them are kept in operation for 24 hours a day
